Krav Maga Training in Israel
Rob, Rich & Darren keeping it real at the Wailing Wall in JerusalemLast month 4 Streetwise students joined 54 Krav Maga practitioners from around the world for a 10 day intensive training course in Israel, the birthplace of the Krav Maga, led by Eyal Yanilov, Chief Instructor of the International Krav Maga Global (KMG), assisted by other high level Israeli instructors from the Special Forces and law enforcement including Amnon Darsa and Zeev Cohen. Instruction ranged from basic techniques to advanced topics (including third party protection, fire arms, multiple attackers, military and police subjects and techniques, and more).
Rich from Streetwise keeping up foreign relations with the elbow strike of friendship to the back of an Australian’s neck!The training took place in several different and diverse locations, including the Wingate Institute (Israel’s national training center for physical education), a bus (it’s amazing how far under a seat you can you can fit a large man if you stomp hard enough), near the Dead Sea, at tables and along the Mediterranean coast at the Netanya beach (including training on the sand and groundfighting in the sea). The reason for the varied training locations is because the philosophy of Krav Maga is to train in different locales, not just the training hall in order to better prepare yourself since you don’t know under what circumstances you might have to call upon your training. Likewise, we trained techniques while at different levels of preparedness (fully prepared, partially prepared, and totally surprised).
Eyal Yanilov and Amnon Darsa teaching knife defence at the Wingate InstituteWe also trained at a shooting range in order to experience pistol techniques with real firearms and shooting under pressure (the bang is alot louder when you are holding the barrel and someone else is pulling the trigger).
After training over 5 hours a day, all of us left Israel with more knowledge, better technique and an involuntary growl when striking and gouging an attacker.
Another Water Workshop
Following the success of the last weeks water based self defence and fitness workshops, we’re going to do them again!
Sunday 23rd August, 3-5pm, same venue.
Cost: Seniors £10 for one or £15 with the Water Self Defence Workshop. Juniors £8 for one or £12 for both.
We will be meeting in the BOARS HEAD afterwards for those that want to, for a shandy and some dry roasted nuts.
